FOR-DO announces the Grand Opening of The Turning Point Recovery Community Center in Delhi. Located at 167 Main Street, this center will provide a gathering place for individuals and families in recovery. David Ramsey, FOR-DO Board member and advocate for The Turning Point, Delhi, said, “With the opening of this recovery center today, our vision of recovery community centers in both Delaware and Otsego Counties has become a reality. Along the way, Friends of Recovery—Delaware/Otsego found a supportive partner in the Delaware County Department of Social Services, who generously gave us the use of a recently renovated house. Individuals and families in recovery from addiction in Delaware County now have a welcoming atmosphere that honors their journey back into healthy, active lives in our communities.”

Over the coming months, FOR-DO will begin introducing programs and services at this site. Of particular importance is Access to Recovery. This initiative is called, New York Service Opportunities for Accessing Recovery Successfully or NY SOARS. This discretionary 4-year grant program, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), provides vouchers to adults (18 +) with a history of or current substance use disorder (SUD) who need Recovery Support Services (RSS) to establish or sustain their recovery. Jeanette Tolson, LMSW RCM/QHP/CASAC, is the Recovery Care Coordinator. “Jeanette comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience in recovery treatment and service. She is a tremendous asset. Friends of Recovery Delaware and Otsego Counties is actively engaged with OASAS in implementing the Access to Recovery (ATR) program in our counties; the opening of The Turning Point, Delhi rounds out our expansion to provide a safe, secure and recovery friendly environments for individuals in recovery and their families. It is an honor to be part of a life changing and life saving endeavor,” said Gary Russo, MS, FOR-DO Executive Director.

OASAS has been awarded Access to Recovery (ATR) Grant from SAMHSA for $13 million. This initiative is called, New York Service Opportunities for Accessing Recovery Successfully or NY SOARS. This discretionary 4 year grant program, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), provides vouchers to adults (18 +) with a history or current alcohol substance use disorder who need Recovery Support Services to establish or sustain their recovery.

The goals of the program are to increase the availability of multiple pathways to recovery and provide true individual choice in accessing faith-based and community based providers for recovery support services, and/or enhanced access to treatment.

Voucherable Recovery Services can help eliminate barriers to recovery by providing improved access to health and wellness and social services, employment and job training programs, educational opportunities, and any other needs identified by the recoveree, such as recovery coaching, counseling-individual, family, pastoral, as well as transportation and childcare.

The grant is expected to serve more than 8,000 adults living in Brooklyn, Rochester, and Otsego/Delaware Counties. No less than 10 % is expected to be from here…. Otsego/Delaware Counties.

We know our healing process…. our recovery process is facilitated with the support of others from our very own community.
So let’s build recovery friendly communities now!
Let’s spend the grant monies in our communities.
Let’s identify the recovery friendly services that will prevail long after this grant is no longer available.
