Founded in 2000, Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties, Inc. (FOR-DO) is a grassroots addiction recovery community organization by, about and for individuals and families in recovery from addictive disorders. We envision a world where recovery from addictions is supported and celebrated as a common reality.
FOR-DO affirms the importance of our recovery support services as a part of New York State’s Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC).
We live and work by the following Guiding Principles:
- There are many pathways to recovery.
- Recovery is self-directed and empowering.
- Recovery involves a personal recognition of the need for change and transformation.
- Recovery is holistic, involving the body, mind, relationships, and spirit.
- Recovery has cultural dimensions.
- Recovery exists on a continuum of improved health and wellness.
- Recovery emerges from hope and gratitude.
- Recovery is a process of healing and self-redefinition.
- Recovery involves addressing discrimination and transcending shame and stigma.
- Recovery is supported by peers and allies.
- Recovery is (re)joining and (re)building a life in the community.
- Recovery is a reality.
All our activities, programs and services are built on these principles.
